Wildcats extend stay of leading duo for two more seasons

Nottingham Wildcats have made a serious statement of intent for the future by tying down two-season deals with their leading performers, Chelsey Shumpert and Jasmine Joyner.

The American pair have penned agreements to remain with Wildcats until May 2021 in what is a significant boost for the two-time WBBL Champions, who are already planning to get back amongst the silverware starting from the 2019-20 season.

Shumpert led the WBBL in scoring this past season with 23.7 points per game, helped by making more field goals than anyone else and also dropping most triples.

Her fellow University of Tennessee, Chattanooga Alumni Joyner, topped both the rebounding and blocked shots categories with 15.3 and 3.8 per game respectively, with both players regular faces in the weekly All-Star Five throughout the season.

Head Coach Kenrick Liburd was extremely pleased with the early acquisition of both players.

He stated: “I am really excited to have two of the most dominant players back. Jasmine and Chelsey have brought a great deal to the team and the club, driving the culture that is important to us.

“Getting this deal done and bringing back the leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker in the league as starting point, is not only exciting, but it signals our intent for the next season,” added the play-caller.
