Nottingham Wildcats continue to build their squad for the 2019-20 WBBL season as they announced the signing of Portuguese combo guard, Simone Costa.
Costa who has played for the Portuguese National teams at U16, U18 and U20 level has just graduated from the NCAA1 programme at the University of Georgia with a degree in Communication Studies.
Simone spent her first two seasons in the USA at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas, before transferring for her Junior and Senior years into the SEC with the University of Georgia. Costa played all 32 games in her Senior year averaging a team high 84% from the free throw line.
Wildcats Head Coach Kenrick Liburd commented on his new acquisition, “I am excited to add a player with Simone’s experience in both the USA and Europe”.
“Simone has been a big contributor in one of top conferences in the USA and has been an impact player at all youth levels for Portugal. We feel that this is a great place for her to take the next step in her career and will be fantastic addition to the Wildcats’ family”.
“She is a natural leader that has the ability to play off the bounce and cause the opponent problems at both ends of the floor”.
The Wildcats are hoping Costa will add a much-needed threat for deep, helping to spread the floor to give returning centre Jasmine Joyner, more room to work inside.
Simone herself commented on her pending move to Nottingham, “I am very excited to be part of the Wildcats family and am looking forward to joining up with my teammates in early September”.
