WBBL 2019/20 fixtures and dates confirmed

The WBBL is today delighted to confirm the fixtures and dates for the sixth season of the Women’s British Basketball League.

The 2019-20 season will commence on Friday 27 September with a special opening weekend at the University of Essex featuring all 12 WBBL teams competing in the Trophy Group Stages. Games will run from the Friday to Sunday, 29 September, with tip-off times to be confirmed.

A week later, the WBBL Cup competition will commence with the First Round games before the WBBL Championship season opens on Saturday 12 October.

WBBL Championship

Featuring all 12 WBBL teams in a 22-week schedule with each team playing each other home and away. The team that finishes the season in first place is crowned WBBL Championship winners.

WBBL Cup

Featuring all 12 WBBL teams in a straight knockout tournament. The First Round will take place on the weekend of 5/6 October 2019 and will involve the teams finishing 5-12 in last season’s WBBL Championship. The match ups will be based on their league position:

First Round
Durham (5th) v Essex (12th)
Nottingham (6th) v Caledonia (11th)
Newcastle (7th) v Cardiff (10th)
Oaklands (8th) v London (9th)

Quarter Final (Single Leg – Open Draw) – 7/8 December 2019
Semi-Finals (Single Leg – Open Draw) – 4/5 January 2020

The WBBL Cup Final will take place on Sunday 26 January 2020 at Arena Birmingham, and tickets are available now [CLICK HERE].

WBBL Trophy

The Trophy will see all 12 WBBL teams split into four groups of three teams. The groups are:

Group A – Sevenoaks, Caledonia, Newcastle
Group B – Oaklands, Leicester, Cardiff
Group C – Essex, Durham, Sheffield
Group D – Barking, Nottingham, Manchester

Teams will play each other team in their group once, two games per team played over a single opening weekend, with group winners progressing into the Semi-Final round.

Semi-Finals (Single Leg – Open Draw) – 15/16 February 2020.

The WBBL Trophy Final will take place on Sunday 15 March 2020 at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow, and tickets are available now [CLICK HERE].

WBBL Play-Offs

The top eight teams in the WBBL Championship will qualify for the Play-Offs with ties being determined by each club’s league position. The Quarter Finals (Single Leg) will take place on the weekend of 25/26 April 2020 and would be as follows:

1st v 8th
2nd v 7th
3rd v 6th
4th v 5th

Winners of the Quarter Finals will advance to the Semi-Finals (Single Leg), taking place a week later on the weekend of 2/3 May 2020. Ties will be determined as the highest remaining seed (highest league placing) facing the lowest seed in one Semi-Final and the other two Quarter Final winners meeting in the other Semi-Final.
