Under 14s Basketball

The Wildcats’ under 14s are the second team in the Nottingham Wildcats Basketball Club and directly follows our Mini-ballers program.

In order to be eligible for this programme, you must be in school year 9 or below. There is no requirement to have previous basketball experience through the Wildcats’ mini-baller programme.

We welcome players who have had previous involvement in basketball through other clubs and school teams. It is preferable that you have had some level of experience playing basketball, however, it is not a compulsory requirement. Every player is individual and will be handled as such.

As with all Wildcats junior teams, the under 14s is a developmental team, with the key focus at this stage.

Development is combined with training and playing with the team currently participating in the junior national basketball league. Although you will be taught how to win, winning will never be at the expense of development.

This ethos is one that provides every player with the opportunity to reach their maximum potential under the guidance and coaching of our experienced staff.

You can expect that the coaching staff and the team manager will ensure you are looked after and that you have a positive experience in the under 14 programme.

Our staff are committed to ensuring every single player gets the best possible coaching. There is an expectation of our staff to do extra within their role. This means that they are not only responsible for your basketball development but also your personal growth. Your coaches and team manager will work together with you to ensure you become a good player, teammate
and person.

Here at the Wildcats, you can also expect a safe environment in which you will feel comfortable and confident to make mistakes and take risks.

All coaches and team managers are DBS screened and hold ‘Child Safeguarding Certificates’, in line with Basketball England (governing body) regulations.

They have experience working with young people your age and enjoy working within this age group.

Finally, you should expect to have fun! Nottingham Wildcats’ prides itself on creating a family atmosphere in which many of our players make lifelong friends. The environment we create has proven to be infectious and many players come back to us after finishing their time within our programmes. They often come back to play for our senior teams, to support, to coach, or just to help out at the club. We hope that you find the environment equally infectious and we are really looking forward to welcoming you into our Wildcats family.
